How do I become a firefighter?

If you are new to the fire service don't worry. There is a tremendous amount of information out there on how to become a firefighter. First, you have to want to become a firefighter. You need to take it upon yourself to get away from this computer and contact fire departments. Get involved with your community. You can also become a volunteer firefighter, which is how many firefighters became career firefighters. Once you start volunteering, the on the job training never stops.

A website with great information for aspiring firefighters is How To Become a Firefighter 101. This site will guide you in the right direction for finding jobs, firefighter requirements, interview advice, and physical ability test info.

Where do your fire fighter questions come from?

The questions in our fire fighter database were written by professional fire fighters with over 20 years of experience. All questions are based upon the National Fire Protection Association NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. This includes the newest 2008 version which just came out in October of 2007. Reference material such as IFSTA and Brady's Essentials of Firefighting 4th and 5th editions and Jones and Bartlett's Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills.

Are these the questions on the real Firefighter 1 and 2 Exams?

No these are not likely the same questions that you will encounter on your real Firefighter 1, 2 or Civil Service examination. That would be cheating. The questions do however cover the same material as most fire department exams. All category areas of general Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Exams are covered and are based on NFPA 1001 Standards for Professional Fire Fighters.

Are you associated with IFSAC?

No, IFSAC is the International Fire Accreditation Congress. They accredit fire schools and academies who teach fire fighting skills. Fire-Fighter-Exam.com is a private organization that specializes in general fire fighting preparatory exams.

I found a question with something wrong. What should I do?

If you found a question that you believe is inaccurate or has a mistake of some other kind please copy and paste the question or answer into a support ticket email and we will take a look at it.

What is AHJ?

The AHJ is the authority having jurisdiction. In the 2008 version of NPFA 1001 Standards for fire fighter professional qualifications the AHJ is sited in many parts. The AHJ for you is the department or district you work for or whatever organizations govern how you as a fire fighter must operate. AHJ is used throughout certification processes included FFI skill sheets.

Why do I keep seeing the same questions?

Our application is written so that if you miss a question it is left in a random pool of questions to be drawn from again. Once you get the question correct it is eliminated from the database until you have answered all questions correctly.

I am a Training Officer and/or Chief. Can I use Fire-Fighter-Exam Questions to administer a fire department entrance exam for my department?

If you are interested in using our questions to put on a test for you department please contact us for further information. We will accommodate you and make a test per your specifications. Please use a support ticket to request pricing and further information.

Do you have any other types of test for other fire disciplines such as instructors, fire officers, or driver/operators?

No, we currently only have exams for aspiring or current firefighters who need practice for a fire department entrance exam or national certification test.

Do you have specific state or county firefighter questions?

State, county, and fire department exams are always different because of different chiefs or administrators changing them. For this reason we cannot say that we have specific questions for these agencies. There are several different types of tests, of which we have similar questions, that can assist you in passing your exam.

Some fire quiz and exam website's state that they have specific tests for my state and the fire department I am testing for. Do they really have the specific exam that I need?

Some website's provide FALSE information regarding exams. Do not be lured by this false advertisement, because they probably don't have it. It is almost impossible to always know what type of exam a fire department is going to host. If you are unsure what type of test the fire department is going to have, simply call and ask them.

What are the differences between firefighter 1 and 2 questions?

Firefighter 1 questions cover topics such as firefighter safety and health, personal protective equipment, portable fire extinguishers, ropes and knots, basic rescue and extrication, forcible entry, ground ladders, ventilation, water supply, fire hose, fire streams, fire control, fire detection, alarms, suppression systems, communications, and hazardous materials awareness and operations.

Firefighter 2 questions cover all of the above plus more advanced rescue and extrication, advanced water supply, fire hose service testing, advance fire streams (foam), advanced fire control, protecting scene evidence, and advanced communications.

Can I separate the firefighter 1 questions into separate categories such as only rescue, building construction, or SCBA questions?

No, the firefighter 1 category will cover all aspects of firefighter 1 rather that just 1 subcategory such as building construction. This is because there are not enough questions in any one subcategory to make a good test. As we write more questions we may change this.

False Firefighter and EMT prep exams

It has been brought to the attention of our staff that certain persons are falsely selling our product as their own. We just want to let everyone know about some warning signs prior to buying an exam.

1. If the site is hard to read, jumbled, words all together, and it just looks crappy it's probably not a good site to buy from.
2. We are only selling online prep questions at this time. Therefore there are no pdf files to download nor are we selling anything that we will ship to you.
3. The person selling our product is using a user name of textbooknow for their sales. This person is a scamming you and us!

If you find materials that look like they are from Fire-Fighter-Exam or EMT-National-Training please let us know at this link http://www.fire-fighter-exam.com/pdesk/cgi-bin/pdesk.cgi or leave a comment on this article.

Thank You
